A YOUNG girl from Kokstad was proud to be part of the Miss Teen South Africa beauty pageant held at the Protea Hotel in Johannesburg on October 13. She was placed second overall.

Akhona Magadla, a Grade 11 pupil at Kokstad College, was accompanied by her sisters Olwethu and Zukiswa, and her mother Nonkoliseko Dlamini, to give her support at the competition.

“I felt nervous because it was the first time I had participated, however, I got strength through the support of my sisters and mother,” said Akhona.

She encouraged other young girls to step out of their comfort zones to discover new strengths and overcome their limitations.

“Taking a step forward is scary but there is a reward at the end. Remember, a win is a blessing and a loss is a lesson to be learnt,” she said.

She also plays as goal shooter for the Kokstad College netball team and Hot Spurs netball team in Matatiele.
