Kokstad woman ‘scammed’ out of R20 000

2018-01-19 06:00

A 47-YEAR-OLD Kokstad woman was allegedly cheated out of R20 000 by an unknown man who promised to sell her a Nissan Hardbody bakkie on January 2.

The woman allegedly saw the car advertised on the internet and contacted the seller who promised to deliver the car on Saturday.

The seller allegedly wanted the money for toll-road fees, petrol, paper work and other things. Once the money had been sent his cellphone was switched off, so the woman reported the matter to the Kokstad SAPS.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo said the case is being investigated by police and no arrest has been made yet.

He warned people to be aware of criminals who pretend to be car sellers and disappear with the victim’s money as many similar cases have been reported to police.

A case of fraud has been opened and is under police investigation.
