Local football teams from Umzimkhulu walked away with prizes after playing in the Khuthele Soccer Tournament, held by the Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation at the Umzimkhulu Turf on November 17. The tournament was open to local teams to promote football.The foundation’s secretary, Mveli Hloba, said the tournament was started last year. “After eliminations, there were eight teams that participated and won prizes. The foundation also supports another regional tournament, which is usually played in June, with the aim of promoting rural football,” Hloba said.At the tournament, Legends FC came in first place and won R7 500 in prize money. Good Fellas FC came second to walk away with R5 000, while KR Arsenal won R3 000 for their third place title. R2 000 was given to PMC FC.The teams that lost in the quarter finals; M Southern FC, Real Kings FC, Njunga Stars, and Tigers; were given R1 000 each for their participation.Hloba thanked sponsors and local teams for participating in the tournament. Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi, also from Umzimkhulu, attended the tournament and encouraged football players to play the sport with passion.
