THE saying, a difficult road leads to beautiful destinations, best describes a local business’s journey to success.

Lucas Mtumi, Colin Davenhill, Sharpley Wallar, Ivin Boosen, Eddie Bowler and Doda Mpakumpaku from Kokstad are working hard to reach the top.

They own the Shell Garage together for many years at Hope Street, but now they want to expand their business to achieve their business goal and contribute meaningfully in economic participation.

The latest addition to the service station is a Spar Express that will be open 24 hours to assist locals and visitors with groceries, fast food and other items.

“We are also busy revamping our Shell Garage. We have four petrol and diesel pumps, but we decided to add another four pumps to make a total of eight pumps,” said one of the directors, Lucas Mtumi.
He said they will be able to accommodate 16 cars at a time to help their customers.

Mtumi said they also put in two diesel truck pumps which will accommodate two trucks at a time.

He said it was their dream to open the Spar Express and they are happy because their dreams, to promote a culture of entrepreneurship, came true.

“The revamping of the garage will be completed before Easter and the shop will open in June this year. We will employ about 32 people just for the shop,” said Mtumi.

He said about 64 people were employed during the construction of the shop and the revamping of Shell garage. They made use of local engineers and architects.

He said their aim is to create more job opportunities for the people of Kokstad and surrounding areas.
