KOKSTAD shop owner Anwar Zahid had recently been thinking that Kokstad was the nicest place to live. Unfortunately, he learned a tough lesson after his shop was robbed of over for R28 000 on Tuesday, September 11.

Zahid has been running his shop in Kokstad for nine years and this was their first robbery.

The distraught shop owner said that on the day of the incident he went to a taxi rank at 6 pm to fetch his stock. When he returned to his shop after a few minutes, six men opened the door and approached him.

“The men pushed and slapped me in the upper body while the other two were pointing firearms towards me.

“They searched my pockets and took some money, cigarettes and airtime from the shop,” he said.

When a Fever reportervisited his shop the following day, cigarettes were scattered on the floor while staff members were serving customers.

“The men took some money from the tills and disappeared. I think they were just looking for money because they left me unharmed,” Zahid said, adding that he informed both police and a private security company about the incident so they could begin investigating.

SAPS spokesman Captain Dumisani Ncongo confirmed the opening od a case of business robbery, saying no arrests have yet been made.

Ncongo said another case of business robbery is being investigated by Kokstad police after thieves stole R2 000 from a shop in Main Street on Saturday, September 8.

“The shop owner left with the doors and windows closed.

“When he returned to the shop, he noticed there had been a burglary and money had been stolen from the shop,” said Ncongo.
