Lovers’ tiff in Shayamoya ends in murder and suicide

2018-03-02 06:00

COMMUNITY members of Shayamoya are shocked after a 46-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 40-year-old lover and injured her teenage son before killing himself on Sunday evening.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo confirmed the incident and said two counts of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by police. It is alleged that the man had an argument with his girlfriend Lindiwe Jaca on Sunday afternoon.

“On Sunday afternoon, the boyfriend arrived at her house and they started arguing and he made some threats before leaving,” said Kwezi Zulu, a neighbour.

“At 9 pm, neighbours heard Jaca screaming for help. When we got into her house, we saw them fighting. People told the man to stop beating Jaca and he stopped and we left them in peace,” Zulu said.

During the chaos, Jaca was with her 17-year-old son and one-year-old grandchild.

It is alleged that the man then shot Jaca and when her son tried to intervene he was shot and injured. The man then allegedly shot himself before neighbours arrived.

“I heard gunshots, and when I rushed to Jaca’s house I saw her and the man lying in bed and her son was bleeding and crying for help,” said Zulu.

Both Jaca and the man were declared dead at the scene and her son was rushed to hospital where he was transferred to another hospital in Pietermaritzburg. Ncongo said the bodies were taken to a state mortuary for post mortem.
