A KOKSTAD woman, Thembekile Jekwa (36), was allegedly punched by her 35-year-old former boyfriend on November 26.

The police arrested the man and charged him with assault and intention to cause grievously bodily harm.

The man allegedly beat
Jekwa even though she had a protection order against him, which she took out in November 2016 after he threatened to kill her and her four-year-old daughter.

“I was cleaning inside my shack when he came in
shouting that he wanted to kill me.

“He strangled me and kicked me until I fell down.

“Luckily I escaped to the neighbour’s shack before he could finish me off,” said Jekwa.

The neighbours called an ambulance that took her to hospital where her broken arm was put into a cast.

Jekwa said they broke up years ago after he became “ruthless”.

“My ex was a good person when we met and I thought he would be my future husband.”

Jekwa said she wants him to get a long sentence for what he did to her.

SAPS spokesman Captain Dumisani Ncongo confirmed that the man appeared briefly in Kokstad Magistrate’s Court last Friday.

The case was postponed to Monday December 11.
