WARM greetings to readers of this column.

We are now in the last quarter of the 2016/2017 financial year and are at a stage where the Monitoring and Evaluation/Risk Services Unit is finalising performance planning for the next financial year (2017/2018). The municipality is consolidating its 2017/2018 Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan in line with Section 69 (1) (a) of the Municipal Finance Management Act and will then advertise it for public viewing.

Congratulations to car winner

The municipality would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Seeng Makaba (66) from Mahlabatheng village in Ward 15 on winning a new car in the Spar Win-A-Car competition.

The car was delivered to the Matatiele Spar Store premises by Kokstad Hyundai last Wednesday. Speaking with tears in her eyes, Ms Makaba could not express the excitement and thanked Spar and Hyundai management. “We hope your new car will take you to places that will enrich your life. Enjoy your new ride and be safe,” said Matatiele Spar manager, Daisy Evangelellis.

Local Communicators Forum engagement

On 20 June stakeholders got together at the Local Communicators Forum to talk about how to take the communication of Matatiele Local Municipality forward. The forum was established in 2010 and sits quarterly.

The forum is made up of Matatiele Local Municipality communications, Special Programmes Unit, communications officials from Alfred Nzo District Municipality, a representative from Office of the Premier, representative from GCIS, government departments, NGOs, CBOs, community development workers and ward support assistants. The forum mainly deals with service delivery related issues and promotes working relations with government departments and other stakeholders. In this session, a programme of action for the upcoming quarter was developed to avoid duplication and clashes of programmes and programmes that were previously engaged on were presented.

A word of gratitude is extended to all stakeholders who attend this forum in moving Matatiele forward.

Youth Month activities

As part of commemorating Youth Month, Matatiele Local Municipality, in collaboration with South African Police Services, Department of Safety and Liaison and the youth-led Ced/Matat Organisation will tomorrow and Sunday hold a public drug awareness campaign at Cedarville Stadium and a two-phase – 10km and 5km race - with the purpose of encouraging the youth to participate in sport and everyone is welcome to participate and attend. We are a destination of choice and excellence.
