GREETINGS to you during this Transport and Elderly Month.

Transport Month: road safety is everyone’s business

During this month government, and specifically the Department of Transport and its entities will showcase transport infrastructure services in aviation, maritime, public transport and roads. This initiative will also be used to advance road safety initiatives, while creating awareness of the economic benefits of the sector. In Matatiele, the Department of Transport and the municipality will today, October 13, embark on a road safety awareness programme at the Cedarville Town Hall in Ward 26. The programme is aimed at educating pupils about the importance of road safety and how they should be cautious on the roads.

Promoting tourism through sport

Ced/Matat Annual Heritage Race is an annual race that started in 2013 to reinstate the 24km race between Cedarville and Matatiele that used to take place in the early eighties and promote the role of sport in developing athletics in all events - road running, cross-country and track and field.

Ced-Matat Athletic Club believes that taking part in sport builds social cohesion and does not only act as a deterrent to criminal activities, it gives free expression and creativity both mentally and physically to everyone, especially the youth. The purpose of this initiative is to build sports development from grass-roots level up, to attract neighbouring provinces and Lesotho and to participate and promote tourism in Matatiele. This year, the race has three distances - 21.1km, 10km and 5km. The 21km will start at Lunda to North End Stadium on Sunday October 15. Entry forms are available at the municipality, Elegant Man stores and the Cedarville Town Hall.

Caution to Matatiele Music Festival fans

The municipality has noted with concern a false poster circulating
on social media, created in the name of the annual Matatiele Music Festival.

The municipality would like to inform the public that preparations for the upcoming festival are still under way and an official poster will be published as soon as line-up of artists has been confirmed.
