2018 greetings dear reader.

Municipal IDP/Budget Process Plan

According to the local government calendar, we are now in the second month of the third quarter of the 2017/2018 financial year. As per the adopted IDP/Budget Process Plan, the municipality has managed to co-ordinate sessions aimed at preparing for budget adjustments and departmental ,mid-year assessments. Further to this, from February 4 to 8, the municipality will be conducting its strategic planning session to evaluate the status quo, formulate strategies and indicators, review policies and align indicators with performance framework.

Access roads

The municipality notes with concern the state of our access roads due to heavy rains we continue to experience. We have a number of roads that have been reported damaged. Matatiele Local Municipality has a total of 678 km of access roads and some of these were constructed prior to the formation of this municipality in 1996. These access roads have deteriorated over time and as a caring municipality we have started to fix some.

In intervening with condition of roads, the municipality purchased a set of plant machinery for maintenance of roads, however our roads do not just need maintenance, they need re-construction therefore we require sufficient funding. The municipality had acquired the services of external service provider to construct new roads, using conditional grant and acquired savings that we use to do reconstruction of dilapidated access roads. Some of our work is currently felt at the following areas: Ward 8, Nchodu 2,7 km, Ward 9, Siphola to Afsondering 2,9 km, Ward 13, Thababosiu 3,9 km, Ward 17, Sigoga 5,1 km, Ward 18, Rolweni to Fiva 3,4 km, Ward 19, Harry Gwala 2 km, Ward 11, Mapfontein 4 km. We continue with our access road assessment in and around Matatiele for urgent interventions using the municipality grader.

That is all from us for now, till next time, stay safe and be blessed. Thank you sweet people from sweet Matat, “A destination of choice and excellence”.
