DEAR reader.

Matatiele roads damaged by heavy rains

The municipality notes with concern the state of our roads due to heavy rains currently experienced in our area. We have a number of roads, bridges and houses that have been damaged by the floods.

While a full assessment of the damage is yet to be finalised and quantified, the municipality has moved with speed to deal with the emergency. A set of plant is already busy with the maintenance of some roads, together with the municipal grader.

Casual workers have also been hired and an external service provider has been sourced to reconstruct some roads.

This using conditional grant and acquired savings used to reconstruct dilapidated access roads.

The municipality has engaged South African Nation Road Agency Limited (Sanral) to assist with road maintenance. The following access roads have benefited in this programme:

Ward 2: Malubaluba — 6,7 km,

Ward 12: Nkau — 3,8 km,

Ward 22: Rolweni — 6,8 km,

Ward 11: Tsenula — 1,9 km,

Ward 9: Chibini Matias — 9 km.

2018 – 2019 Strategic Planning session

February 4 to 8, 2018, saw our municipality hold its four-day Strategic Planning session. Councillors, traditional leaders, management and staff members evaluated the status quo and formulated strategies and indicators for the coming financial year. Policies were also reviewed and indicators were aligned with the Performance Framework.

Welcoming the leadership, management and staff, the mayor, Cllr Momelezi Mbedla, stressed the significance of fast-tracking service delivery. He also encouraged all present to be dedicated and transparent in their work, this in order to prevent commotion with the communities. His Worship also emphasised the importance of local government working alongside traditional leaders to bring government closer to the people in all dimensions.
