A warm Women’s Month greeting.

AS we continue to celebrate this important month, as the municipality we wish to align ourselves with sentiments that condemn women and children abuse. This following a number of disturbing incidents where women were abducted, raped and killed by mostly their partners who are supposed to protect them.

We call on all men to join the #100MenMarch and boldly break the chain of abuse.

The situation is back to normal at Maluti, this after a disturbing scene where three vehicles belonging to the Department of Transport were set alight at the department’s offices.

A group of angry protesters invaded the Public Works offices in Maluti, demanding answers on what they called “non-progress in the maintenance of roads by the department”.

They then set alight a security guard temporal structure and three vehicles belonging to the state. Attempts to burn down the main office building were unsuccessful.

In a statement released by the department of Transport, MEC Weziwe Tikana has expressed deep shock and disappointment over this damage to property. The MEC visited Matatiele last month and addressed the protesters.

Members of the South African Police Service and those responsible for Public Order Policing have managed the situation in the area. We would like to urge the public to be patient while measures to address the situation of roads in Matatiele are being attended to.

This notice is hereby given in terms of Municipal Act, 2000, and Matatiele Local Municipality Spatial Planning and Land Use Management by-law, 2015, that the municipality intends to commence with a project on securing/upgrading land tenure for Maluti residents.

The goal of the project is for Maluti residents to hold proper land titles (title deeds) for their properties.

Therefore, the municipality residents are requested to submit copies of their land titles (proof of ownership) such as deed of grant, permission to occupy etc. in order to assess and verify the property ownership. You are requested to attach the following documents to the submission — copy of identity document of the owner, sale agreement/affidavit (if site was sold, copy of identity document of a buyer and seller and letter of authority if the responsible person is a child).

Such documents should be submitted to our LED office — Developments Planning Unit. The final day of submission is the August 31. For more information, call 039 737 8126/123
