WARM greetings to readers of this column.

The Matatiele Local Municipality is once again embarking on a programme that gives you the power to make your voice heard.

In terms of Section 29 (i) and (ii) of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, (Act 32 of 2000), you are invited to attend the 2019/2020 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) community outreach, which will run from November 19 to November 22 in all Matatiele wards.

During this period, members of the public will get an opportunity to share their ideas, successes, and challenges with their leaders.

You are encouraged to participate and attend these sessions that will be taking place at your ward.

Venues and dates will be communicated through your ward councillors, ward committees, and community development workers.

Teams have been allocated and will be led by the Mayor, Cllr Momelezi Mbedla; the Speaker of Council, Cllr Nomasomi Mshuqwana; Chief Whip Cllr Sonwabile Mngenela; and members of the Executive Committee together with councillors, managers, municipal officials, representatives from Alfred Nzo District Municipality and government departments. Don’t miss the boat, please!

November 8 saw the coming together of different stakeholders with the aim to engage on how to take the communication of Matatiele local municipality forward.

The Local Communicators Forum (LCF) was established in 2010 and sits quarterly.

The forum is made up of Matatiele local municipality Communications, Special Programmes Unit, Communications officials from Alfred Nzo District Municipality, a representative from the office of the Premier, representative from GCIS, government departments, NGOs, CBOs, community development workers and Ward Support Assistants.

The forum mainly deals with service delivery related issues and promotes working relations with government departments and other stakeholders.

In this session, a programme of action for the upcoming quarter and 16 Days of Activism related programmes were developed to avoid duplications and clashes of programmes.

A word of gratitude is extended to all stakeholders who continue to attend this forum in moving Matatiele forward.

As Matatiele local municipality, we have consolidated our 16 Days of Activism programmes with our stakeholders (government departments operating in Matatiele jurisdiction).

This includes the review of our Special Programmes Unit strategy, that will incorporate all social departments programmes, to avoid duplication of programmes and share resources to benefit the people of Matatiele.

Through our Special Programmes Unit, the municipality will hold stakeholders’ engagement with the Commission for Gender on November 27.

This is in order to further engage relevant stakeholders on issues of domestic violence and gender.

A community dialogue on rape victims is scheduled to take place on December 4.

The Golden games tournament will target elderly women from all 26 wards. The elderly will have a fun day playing different sports. Through this, we’re trying to inculcate a culture of active ageing amongst our elderly residents.

The municipality have the honour of hosting the district World Aids Day, which will take place on November 28 at Masakala in ward 3. “We are a Destination of Choice and Excellence.”
