2016-10-21 06:00

WARM greetings to readers of this viewpoint.

Welcome once again to the Matatiele Local Municipality view point. It is our responsibility to ensure that our community is well informed of recent accomplishments at their respective areas.

The Matatiele Local Municipality believes in providing people with information which is accessible to them; and which they can use to improve their lives, based on their needs, encouraging people to participate actively in the democratic processes. Keeping people continuously informed of policies and programmes that affect them and progress in implementing them.

Know your councillor programme

The Speaker of Matatiele Local Municipality, Cllr. Nomasomi Mshuqwana has embarked on a programme to meet traditional leaders, traditional councils, and community development workers to introduce the new councillors in the Matatiele Local Municipality.

“When the new council was sworn in on 24 August we promised our traditional leaders and stakeholders around Matatiele that we will ensure working relations are improved and we will work together to move this municipality forward,” said Mshuqwana.

These engagements seek to address tensions that seem to exist between ward councillors, traditional leaders, and community development workers by forging and harmonising relations among these stakeholders for the purpose of improved service delivery. It will also enable the municipality to clarify the roles of these stakeholders, who operate in the same space.

With these stakeholders operating in the same space Mshuqwana feels it is important that they all come together and create a platform for them to discuss how they can complement each other, and their role in rural development.

Engagements in Sibi, Malubalube, Manguzela and Luphindo Traditional Councils were positive and the municipality believes the engagements in Mvenyane, Makhoba, George Moshoeshoe, Bakoena, Matandela, Ludidi and Silindini will also be positive in terms of building and strengthening the working relations among these stakeholders.
