Our five-year communications strategy

Government considers communication to be a strategic element of service delivery and a major tool used in promoting and communicating government programmes.

The municipality held a two-day communications strategy workshop at the Executive Conference Centre in Matatiele. The five-year communications strategy will provide guidelines and reference tools around government communications as the key support service for service delivery.

These include government communications strategy, media management, stakeholders engagement, communications for development, understanding of government policy, marketing and branding, and the management of corporate identity of government.

Welcoming more than 100 delegates Mayor Momelezi Mbedla emphasised the crucial role played by communication between government and members of the public. Part of deliberations during the two-day workshop included the need to communicate government’s programme of action to communities and stakeholders in line with five back-to-basics pillars.

The need to strengthen platforms to communicate with stakeholders and communities towards development and implementation of government programme of action as contained in the IDP was also noted.

Furthermore, it was outlined that the 2016-2021 communications strategy action plan, through the communications and special programmes unit, should provide communication support to all sector departments, agencies and formations.

Those in attendance included representatives from the Office of the Premier, GCIS (presentation on the national communications framework) and Mamkeli Ngam from Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs shared the back-to-basics approach.

Councillors, municipal management, government departments, NGOs and the communications unit from Alfred Nzo District Municipality were also in attendance. The municipality extend a word of gratitude to everyone who took part in the development of this important strategic meeting.
