Matatiele Local Municipality viewpoint

2017-02-03 06:01

WARM greetings to all readers of this viewpoint.
It is our responsibility to ensure that our community is well informed of recent accomplishments at their respective areas.

Matatiele residents cautioned
I would like to take this opportunity to warn readers about a group of people who claim to be recruiting for the Matatiele Local Municipality. Do not fall prey to such scams. When we have vacancies we advertise them in local newspapers, notice boards and on the municipal website.

Municipality invests R16.6 million in Ward 9
Life is about to change for the people of Gudlintaba, Makhoaseng and Khashule villages in Ward 9. These are some of the villages that have been without electricity for years – a state of affairs the municipality is working hard to change. This week, the municipality introduced the contractor, who has been appointed to electrify these areas, to the community.

The work by Thake Electrical will commence on 6 February and is expected to complete the project by June. Material has already been delivered to the site, raising hopes for the communities who have been patiently waiting.
“We appreciate the efforts of our municipality. Access to electricity is like a dream come true,” said Mr Rajoale, headman.
The project will see 20 local people being employed and has an overall budget of R16.6 million. The municipality asks those who do not have electricity yet to be patient. The issue of electrifying Matatiele is a priority for us, and we are doing all in our power to replace darkness in our communities with light.
An electrification plan is available at our customer service desk and people are welcome to view it and monitor the progress.

Time to strategise - 5 to 9 February

As you might be aware, we are in the process of developing a five-year integrated development plan (IDP). The IDP is a legislative requirement, as per Chapter 5 of the Local Government Systems Act 2000 as amended (Act 32 of 2000).
We are now in the strategy formulation phase and have started preparing for the 2018-2022 strategic planning session.
The purpose of the session is to formulate strategies, objectives and plans that guide development within the municipality for the next five years. This also serves as a platform for government departments to present their situational analysis and planned programmes for the next financial year.

That’s it for now, until next Friday, we are a destination of choice and excellence.
