COMMUNITY members from all wards in Umuziwabantu Local Municipality attended mayoral roadshows in numbers.

Umuziwabantu Local Municipality mayor, Dixie Nciki and Ugu District Municipality Mayor N. Gumede visited all 10 wards as part of the 2015 mayoral roadshows, which were held from 3 November to 20 November. Both mayors presented service delivery progress in Umuziwabantu reports.

Umuziwabantu municipality spokesperson Nkosi Zwane said the roadshows provided a platform for dialogue and communication between the community, municipalities and stakeholders.

“Local government is mandated by legislative requirements, which stipulate the importance of facilitating an environment which promotes public participation, and the roadshows gave communities a platform to voice their concerns and opinions to their councillors and the two mayors.”

During the roadshows Nciki reported to the community on everything that has been achieved in service delivery projects and programmes initiated by the municipality and the other departments.

A status quo report was also given on projects currently being implemented and those that are in the planning phase.

Gumede also gave a detailed report on water and sanitation projects. An awareness of the current drought and water saving strategies was also conducted as it is imperative that communities are aware of the current challenges faced by the district municipality during this difficult time.

Community members raised issues pertaining to safety, housing, infrastructure and water in Umuziwabantu.
