THE renaming of Greater Kokstad Municipality (GKM) building in 75 Hope Street in Kokstad will be top of the agenda at a public hearing in the community hall next Friday.
The mnicipality proposed that the building be renamed after Adam Kok III and that his statue be erected in front of it.
Chairperson of the Griqua Traditional Council Gabriel Marais welcomed the move and said it is an honour to the Griqua community.
He asked the Kokstad community to attend in numbers in support of the renaming. “To rename the building after Adam Kok III will preserve our heritage,” said Marais.

The municipality also wants to rename some streets in Kokstad.
A public notice was issued in the media by GKM asking people to give written and comment input about the building’s name change.
Councillors, ward committees, ratepayers, farmers’ association, hawkers, community structures, taxi and businesses are asked to attend the meeting.

Marais said Griguas also want the municipality and the local park to be renamed after Adam Kok III.
