SAPS from Harry Gwala District Cluster have been rewarded for their good work in fighting crime, at an event held at the Peace Initiative Hall in Ixopo on Wednesday.

The men and women in blue uniform have been told to continue fighting crime in rural and farm areas.

Speaking at the event, SAPS cluster commander, Brigadier Thobekile Shazi said in the past years, the district received a lot of bad publicity due to political killings in the area and police worked hard to remain stable.

“The cluster has decided to acknowledge the good work of police in fighting crime. In the 2017/2018 financial year, the cluster observed successes through the contribution of station commanders,” said Shazi.

At the event there was jubilation when Captain Ndzondelelo Mncwabe and Muzi Mkhize were rewarded with a certificate and a trophy for Best Improved Detectives in the district.

Highflats Police Station was rewarded for Best Improved Station.

The chairperson of Harry Gwala Cluster Community Prevention Forum, Mveliso Nohlaba thanked police for their contribution in fighting crime in rural areas. Nohlaba called for a strong partnership between police and stakeholders in fighting crime.

Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality mayor, Zamo Nxumalo said that police needed to be rewarded for being dedicated at work. Harry Gwala District Cluster has 14 stations and station commanders including Kokstad Police Station were rewarded for good performance.
