COMMUNITY members of Khoapa village outside Matatiele were saddened when the body of Solomon Tobia was found floating in a dam on May 17.

SAPS have confirmed a case of inquest as they are still investigating. SAPS said that his body was found with no visible wounds.

The 49-year-old Tobia was reported missing on May 8 when he did not returned home from a traditional feast at his friends place at Zwelitsha village near Khoapa. Tobia’s relatives, community members, Maluti South African Police Services, Mounted Unit and Dog Unit searched for his whereabouts in recent weeks to no avail until discovering his body at the dam last week.

On May 16, local men who were herding cattle saw his red T-shirt floating in the dam and shoes next to the dam but did not find his body because it was in the evening.

They informed the community including a ward councillor and on the next day, after a thorough search, the body was identified by a community member, Mojalesa Tobia who is his relative. Speaking to the Fever, Mojalesa said that he and other local men pulled the body out from water and put it in a forensic pathology van. Mojalesa said that the body was taken to a Government mortuary for investigations and will be buried soon.

“Tobia was a loving and caring man and I am saddened about his passing, may his soul rest in peace,” said Mojalesa.
