ON October 12, a multimillion-rand building, valued at R43 million, was handed over to the Department of Social Development after it was built by the Department of Public Works in Matatiele. The construction of it began in 2015 and was completed last week. This after social workers had spent years working in prefab containers. The building has offices, boardrooms, a visitors’ waiting room, consulting rooms, a kitchen and recreation area. Khayalethu Qwalela from Iqhayiya Design Workshop Architects said the building will not use a lot of electricity due to its unique design.

“We thank the government for handing over this building as now social workers and staff will no longer have to work in difficult conditions,” said Zanaye Dlokweni, Alfred Nzo Department of Social Development district manager.
