Municipality is to investigate irregular costs following AG report

THE Matatiele Local Municipal Council has authorised the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) to investigate irregular expenditure discovered by the auditor-general. The municipality received qualified audit outcomes with findings.

On Monday, the municipality held the second Council sitting this year and the auditor-general’s report was on the agenda. In the report, the auditor-general found wasteful and irregular expenditure in the project of R2,2 million for the Ncome Road and further wasteful expenditure of R94 000 and R30 000.

Municipal speaker Nomasomi Mshuqwana confirmed that the MPAC has been tasked to do a proper investigation into the findings for the period of two months and report back to Council.

“We want investigations so that the municipality can do better next time. We want investigations to be completed by the end of March,” said Mshuqwana.

DA councillor Wonga Potwana said the party supports the investigation.

“After the investigation we want people who are found liable to be charged by the municipality and face disciplinary actions.

There is nothing to celebrate in the municipality because the DA wants clean audit outcomes with no findings,” said Potwana.
