Municipality rubbish collection days reduced

2015-12-04 06:00

THE Greater Kokstad Municipality’s failure to collect rubbish is said to be the cause of illegal dumping sites.

This emerged after the refuse removal truck and tractors did not collect refuse on pick-up days.

Some residents raised concerns about the situation.

"I’ve had a number of queries regarding rubbish collection in and around Kokstad and have had many discussions with GKM regarding this.

“Basically the Greater Kokstad Municipality has decided to reduce the number of collections in town and are increasing collections and cleaning elsewhere within municipal boundaries," said Kokstad Chamber of Commerce Public Relations Officer Margi Flemming.

She said she has not officially received any new schedule, but understands that collections will now be as follows:

• areas that used to have Monday and Wednesday collections will now only have Monday collections; and

• areas that used to have Tuesday and Thursday collections will now only have Tuesday collections.
