THE ANC is in shock following the murder of Ward 1 candidate Bongani Skhosana (41), on Monday.
Skhosana was shot dead while transporting children to school at his home village in Santombe outside Harding as the ANC were campaigning in Ward 1, which is under the NFP at Umziwabantu Municipality.

ANC election co-ordinator in Umziwabantu, Mzwandile Nyathi, said Skhosana was campaigning to take back Umziwabantu from the ANC as it was taken by NFP in 2011.

“I was assisting Skhosana and I am shocked that he was killed.
“No threats were reported to me as a co-ordinator and the area is calm and people were campaigning without intimidating any party.”

Political parties that are going to contest elections at Umziwabantu Local Municipality committed to campaign freely and peacefully during elections and political parties that will contest in Harding signed the IEC’s Code of Conduct.

Members of the ANC in Harding visited Skhosana’s family on Wednesday.

Today the ANC and community members will attend Skhosana’s memorial service in Harding.

Police have opened a case of murder.
