THE Ubuhlebezwe Municipality in Ixopo has shown support for local music groups at the annual Performing Arts Festival, held at Peace Initiative Hall in Ixopo last weekend.

The two-day event kicked off on Friday, September 29 with eight groups who battled for the first prize of R10 000. Artists came from all 14 wards in Ixopo.

The event concluded with a parade from the Department of Social Development offices to the Ixopo Golf Course. Music played from the genres of “Ingoma”, “Isibhaca”, “uGiya”, “Isigekle” and “Masikhandi”.

Ubuhlebezwe Municipal deputy mayor Elizabeth Ngubo thanked music artists and groups who participated at the event. Music groups Indlela Efanele and Achievers won trophies while other groups won prize money.
