GREETINGS to the residents of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality and Harry Gwala, it is a pleasure that we meet again this week, t

March has been declared Human Rights Month which reminds South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for democracy in South Africa. Human Rights Day falls on March 21.

The 1960s were characterised by systematic defiance and protest against apartheid and racism across the country.

On March 21, 1960, the community of Sharpeville and Langa townships, like their fellow compatriots across the country, embarked on a protest march to protest against pass laws.

As the municipality we emphasise the importance of human rights and no one must infringe in the rights of others. We have programmes aimed at empowering society, working together with stakeholders in the form of the local Sukuma Sakhe task team, which has proved to be the best performing local task team in the province.

We pride ourselves with putting the needs of our people first and striving to live up to our reputation as a caring municipality.

The municipality has held the strategic planning sessions in the past two weeks. The strategic plan identifies implementation priorities of the municipal development plan.

The implementation of these priorities will be supported by department’s strategies, actions and initiatives as identified in departmental business plans for the financial year.

The strategic plan balances priorities against opportunities and challenges, while supporting the principles of community sustainability.

The goal of the strategic plan is to guide the responsible use of resources, effectiveness and efficiency in municipal service delivery and accountability to citizens, council and stakeholders.

Until we meet again, be blessed …
