NDZ VIEWPOINT

2018-05-25 06:00

GREETINGS to all residents of our beloved municipality and the entire community of Harry Gwala District, the month of May is recognised as Africa Month, a time when the continent of Africa commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity.

Celebrated on May 25, since its establishment in 1963, Africa Day as it is now known marks the beginning of a quest for the unity of the continent and for the political and economic emancipation of its people as well as co-operation among them. The theme for this year is “The Year of Nelson Mandela Building a Better Africa and a Better World”.

As part of the celebrations, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality in collaboration with its stakeholders hosted Child Protection Week and Children’s Day on May 16, at Kwa Thunzi Community Hall, the main aim of this programme is to respond to the issues that have been raised in all of our war rooms and to use a collaborative approach when addressing the social ills that seem to be a thorn in the development of our societies. The Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality was privilege to host the Harry Gwala District Growth and Development Summit held at Sani Pass on May 15 and 16, proving yet again that as the NDZ we are a destination of choice.

Africa Month seeks to increase the appreciation and demand for arts and culture goods and services and stimulate competitive markets for Intra-Africa trade. This is the very same reason that as the Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality will again be taking part in the up-coming Royal Show for the year taking place in Pietermaritzburg.

Our exhibitors will be showcasing their artistic products, displaying the talent that is existing at NDZ municipality; our tourism unit will be there as well to continue the good work that they are doing with regards to the marketing of the Southern Drakensberg as the destination.

The municipal sod turning took place during the course of the week around the different wards; these sod turnings are usually marked with much elation from community members, the mayor, municipal officials, contractors and stakeholders concerned.

The mayor made few remarks after each and every sod turning that many thanks go to the project managers from the municipality, implementing agents, contractors, fellow councillors and the entire NDZ municipal administration, whose combined efforts have led us here today.

These development projects will benefit a number of people and is aimed at meeting the needs of the most vulnerable and deserving beneficiaries. Thank you.
