GREETINGS to all residents of the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma municipal area.
It is a pleasure that we meet again as we bring you all the developments that are taking place in your municipality.

“Dr NDZ Municipality is raising the bar higher.”

Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality ward one has been nominated for this year’s Premiers Excellency Awards. This is the third consecutive year that the NDZ municipal ward has been nominated and this is an indication that we are doing something positive for our communities through the Sukuma Sakhe programme and working together with our stakeholders.

The assessors from the Office of the Premier evaluated ward one’s performance in various areas, including the turnaround strategy from 2016 to 2017, interventions provided and programmes undertaken to fight social ills in the ward, a war-room audit, human resources available and intergovernmental relations that exist in the war room.

As the municipal manager, I feel humbled by the work that our officials are doing on the ground, working together with all other stakeholders. Indeed, as the municipality, we are humbled to be nominated for the third consecutive year.

Any award and recognition for work done serves as motivation to those concerned to improve their performance, thereby increasing the standard of service.

It also gives us a benchmark to see where we are performing well within the programme and which aspects need attention in order to be in line with the best practices within the programme. Our goal is to continue to provide the best services to our communities.

As the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, we are proud to announce that we will again host the Tourism Buddies programme. Tourism Buddies forms part of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism’s effort to educate young people in the province about career options available in the tourism industry of South Africa.

The structure of the training is composed of 30 % theory and 70 % practical, in which the students are placed in various hospitality establishments around the municipality for their workplace training.

The students enrolled in the programme are trained in either one of the following qualifications: National Certificate Food and Beverages NQF level 4 or National Certificate Accommodation Service NQF level 2.

On completion of the above-mentioned programmes, each student will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification issued through CathsSeta.

This also provides employment opportunity as the students will receive a stipend on a monthly basis.

Tourism forms a very big part of the NDZ Municipality’s economy and gives our youth and communities the chance to showcase their diverse heritage and natural treasures.
