NDZ VIEWPOINT

2018-07-27 06:01

SPECIAL GREETINGS, to all residents as we celebrate the month of Tata Nelson Mandela.

The Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality Ward 1 has been awarded the silver award/medal in this year’s Premiers Excellency Awards. This is the third consecutive time that the NDZ municipality wards have been nominated and this is an indication that we are doing something positive for our communities through the Sukuma Sakhe programme working together with our stakeholders. The assessors from the Office of the Premier evaluated the ward’s performance in various areas, including their turnaround strategy from 2016-2017, intervention provided and programmes undertaken to fight social ills in the ward, war room audit, human resources available and intergovernmental relations that exist in the war room.

As the municipal manager, I feel humbled by the work that our officials are doing on the ground, working together with all other stakeholders and indeed as the municipality we are humbled to be nominated for the third consecutive period.

Any award and recognition for work done serves as motivation to those concerned on improving their performance and performing better, thereby increasing the standard of service. This also gives us a benchmark to see where we are performing well within the programme and which aspects need attention so we are in line with the best practices within the programme; our goal is to continue to provide the best service to our communities.

MANDELA DAY

When you mention the name Nelson Mandela, the world automatically pictures the iconic man who brought freedom and democracy to South Africa. His selfless acts have instilled a sense of humanity and compassion in the immeasurable people he inspires around the globe. On his birthday, July 18, the NDZ Municipality urged residents to dedicate 67 minutes of their time towards the common good of humanity, representing the 67 years of his life he gave to fighting for human rights in South Africa and the world.

The municipality called upon all residents to join the Mayor Cllr P.N Mncwabe on the streets of Underberg, armed with rubbish bags and rubber gloves, where participating residents were involved in cleaning up litter that has been dumped throughout the town.

Different activities were undertaken by the NDZ Municipality on the day, such as cleaning of Solokohlo crèche in ward 1, planting of trees at Dlangani High School In ward 11 by the Provincial Department of Public Works. The municipality was also involved in a special occasion where there was a celebration of senior citizens at Kevelaer Mission under ward 13. As the municipality we carry the values that were instilled in us by Tata Madiba.
