NDZ VIEWPOINT

2018-08-03 06:00

GREETINGS to all the Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipal residents. It is with pleasure that we bring you the latest developments taking place around your municipality.

As the Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, we are spearheading in our vision of improving the quality of life for all people of NDZ Municipality by creating economically viable and sustainable development. Through hard work, we believe that it will be good for our current and future generations of residents of NDZ Municipality.

I am proud to share with you the progress of the Bulwer Civic Centre, which is currently under its final stages of construction. This centre is a reflection of the government’s commitment to bring services to the people of the NDZ municipal area. The aim of the centre is to centralise government departments and make them more accessible to our communities. Our residents will not need to travel far to get essential services such as Home Affairs, Social Development etc.

MEDIA TOUR

The municipality is planning to host its first annual media tour at the beginning of August — the intention of this tour is to showcase the progress that has been made on our projects as well as to show the completed projects and the positive impact they have on the community members who are the beneficiaries. The team will be led by the Deputy Mayor, who is also the Portfolio Chairperson of the Public Works, and Basic Services Committee Cllr P. Shange, and will include portfolio committee members and members of different media houses that we have in our province. The objective of the initiative is to ensure that we publicise and communicate with our communities and keep them abreast with all the developments that are taking place in their municipality, thus proving that the municipality is indeed at work.

Sassa message to our residents (Sukuma Sakhe Approach)— Sassa wishes to stress that the only direct deduction from a social grant which is permitted is a deduction for funeral policy premiums which are managed under Regulation 26 (A) of the Social Assistance Act 2004. The regulation allows for one deduction, which may not exceed 10% of the value of the grant, from adult grants (old age, war veterans and permanent disability grants) only. No direct deductions for funeral policy premiums may be effected from any temporary grant or child grant. It must be made clear that Sassa does not offer or endorse any funeral policies; however, any qualifying beneficiary is free to take out a policy.

SASSA wants to reiterate that it does not provide loans, funeral insurance, pre-paid products or any financial services. They provide social grants intended to provide financial support for those who have zero or very little income to ensure that they have the means to provide the basics for their survival.

On Friday, July 20, the municipal management met with the Underberg/Himeville Rate Payers Association at the Underberg country club — the session was a success as we were able to iron out many valid issues that were brought forward by our stakeholders and we are very confident that everything will go according to plan going forward. We are a municipality that listens to its community members, thus living to Batho Pele principle of putting people first. Until next time, stay blessed…
