GREETINGS to all the Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality residents and the district of Harry Gwala, it is a pleasure that we meet again this week.During his month, government, and specifically the Department of Transport and its entities, will showcase transport infrastructure services in public transport and roads. This month will also be used to further advance the municipality’s road safety initiatives, while also creating awareness of the economic benefits of the sector. Our investments in the transport sector as the municipality are aimed at stimulating development and creating jobs as part of the local economic development plan. These investments will ensure that we build an integrated public transport network across the municipality and also enhance the trade between NDZ Municipality and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Our investment in rail, roads, and public transport is changing the way people access their places of work, study and entertainment. These investments will also help to grow our economy as the NDZ municipality, and address the challenges of unemployment, poverty, and inequality in our society.MEC Ravi Pillay, district Mayor Cllr M.E Ndobe, and NDZ municipality Deputy Mayor Cllr P. Shange were at Himeville on October 24 to assess the road works on the Sani pass road, which links South Africa and Lesotho. They also had numerous roadblocks and conducted a Thuma Mina safety walk around Underberg. This was used to raise awareness on the important role of transport in the economy and to encourage participation from civil society and business, including the provision of a safe and more affordable, accessible, and reliable transport system in the municipal area.Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality kicked off its first Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Budget Imbizo at Qulashe Community hall on October 25 in a packed hall in Ward Six. NDZ Deputy Mayor Cllr Philani Shange, all councillors and municipal officials were present at the Imbizo. The reason behind hosting such an event is to also ensure that all communities are given an opportunity to interact directly with the municipal officials under the district and local municipalities regarding development issues that affect their daily lives within the district. The NDZ location has a strong influence on provincial channels of investment, movement of tourists, and restructuring of the provincial and district spatial framework for growth and development.Despite all the above competitive advantages, the municipality is challenged with growing unemployment, poverty and uneven development and infrastructure but, working together as stakeholders, we are confident that we will make NDZ municipality a better place for all.
