NETBALLERS and supporting stakeholders were honoured for their role in the development of the sport at the Harry Gwala District Netball Awards held at the Bongweni Youth Centre on Saturday.Speaking at the ceremony, the chairperson of Harry Gwala District Netball Association Nontathu Nojiwa Makhalima, encouraged parents to support their children when playing netball.She thanked the Department of Sport and Recreation and Harry Gwala District Municipality for developing and supporting netball.Awarded netballers include, U19 Harry Gwala District netball captain Estrice Siyasanga for best captain of the year, Nosipho Nkosiyaphantsi as best umpire of the year, Mpho Sempu as best player of the year, Qaqamba Gugwana as best goal shooter of the year, Lindelwa Gibixhego as best defender of the year and Ziyanda Nzimbomvu who plays centre in the district team. Shayamoya High School teachers received a trophy on behalf of the school for best performing school in the district.Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality was also awarded for best improved municipality in the district. Simphiwe Cele from Harry Gwala District Association demarcation and structures said netball is receiving massive support from municipalities and sponsors. “I am honoured to be awarded, these awards always encourage us to work harder,” said Harry Gwala District netball player Lindelwa Gibixhego. According to Harry Gwala Netball Team manager Berbeto Mnikina the U19 Harry Gwala District netball team players are currently training to play in the national championships in Johannesburg in June.Pham Nene who also manages the Harry Gwala District netball team was awarded for her role as best team manager of the year.
