THE newly established Greater Kokstad Community Tourism Organisation is expected to market Kokstad to tourists so as to boost the local economy, said the organisation’s chairperson Siphokazi Thiam. The organisation was launched on Thursday, November 8 with the support of the Greater Kokstad Municipality. Speaking about the organisation, Thiam said they will partner with the taxi industry and businesses when marketing Kokstad. She said Kokstad is rich in tourism and boasts many tourist attractions.“The history and culture of Kokstad can attract many people and, to make this into a reality, we need an information centre for tourists to access knowledge about the town. We also need tour-guides who will be dedicated to marketing the town.”Members of organisation who were elected at the launch include deputy chairperson Loyiso Bavuma, secretary Kaylyn Gunkel, treasurer Clayton Marais, and two additional members, Bonisile Ndabeni and Unity Godden. The new members vowed to meet every two weeks to discuss ways of marketing Kokstad to other towns. During the festive season, they plan to market agri-tourism to visitors for tourists to spend at least three days in Kokstad before moving on to other towns. They also called for the residents to do their best to protect the environment.
