GREETINGS to all.

Electrification of 400 households

As the municipality, we have accelerated our approach towards the installation of electricity throughout Umzimkhulu. Thus far electricity backlogs seem to be the leading thorny issue on service delivery in this vast rural municipality. As we consolidated the 2017/2018 IDP Outreach Programmes throughout Umzimkhulu, fruitful engagements with communities have been welcomed by beneficiaries.

It is on that note that after successfully getting funds from the Department of Energy, we have introduced an electricity service provider, Imbawula Technical Services, and its consulting engineer, Izingodla Engineering Pty Ltd.

Four hundred households will benefit from this project in Delamuzi, Ward 1. The project is known as Delamuzi-Pholanyoni Electrification. It is to be completed in the 2017/2018 financial year.

Community engagements

We thank the communities of Umzimkhulu for the mature manner they have thus far handled service delivery concerns. They had many choices to entertain those who mislead or misinform them about the causes of these backlogs, but they chose the mature manner of talking to municipal leadership.

Over and above the IDP Outreach Programme that recently took place, the communities of Ward 1 (Corinth Village) and the one of Ward 2 (Lucingweni Village) were visited by Umzimkhulu Municipality to present a progress report on electricity.

Regardless of the challenges, this municipality will stop at nothing to ensure the communities of Umzimkhulu receive electricity.

Till we meet again.
