Back to school campaigns

As part of zooming in on challenges faced by our education, we have taken special programmes to schools throughout Umzimkhulu, especially those that did well and those who have improved.

We understood some of the achievements are attributed to the integrated approach executed last year. Through these programmes numerous realisations had been consolidated whereby certain tendencies from stakeholders will have to be aborted this year, for better results next year. A programme of action to assist us to relevantly and fruitfully intervene has also been developed for a year.

2018 Tertiary registration assistance

We have realised our communities are financially not equal so we have started a programme whereby we assist deserving pupils with registration fees for tertiary institutions.

This year’s turnout has grown to 35% compared to last year. Processes to eventually appoint the most deserving is at an advanced stage.

2018 Manqoba Mngqithi Tournament

It is with pleasure to announce that the KZN Sport and Recreation, Harry Gwala Safa district and relevant stakeholders have continued to partner with the Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation in hosting a talent-unleashing tournament in June. This tournament is an integral programme that will elevate our community’s talent. It is also a weapon to fight drug and substance abuse and everyone is requested to communicate with their respective councillors and municipalities within the Harry Gwala District.

Bereavement - 5 Roses aka Delisile

It is with great sadness to realise we have lost one of the legends of maskhandi music, known as 5 Roses and also known as Delisile, who comes from Umzimkhulu, although she was based in Durban. She is one of the first, if not the first, female maskhandi artist to be aired on radio in both Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
