AFTER Fever published a story about seven young people who were rescued from a life of drugs, the number of drug addicts who want to be rehabilitated has risen.

Recently Untwist, an NPO that was started three years ago, took in eight young people in Port Shepstone (Untwist takes drug addicts to rehabilitation centres).
Co-founder, facilitator and former drug addict, Morgan
Pienaar said many people come to the organisation asking for help and the number has grown since Fever published the story.

Morgan has been clean for four years.

“Drug addiction is a problem for many young people in Kokstad. I always advise parents to look after their children and make sure they don’t fall prey to drugs,” said

Untwist also visits schools to
educate young people about dangers of using drugs and they talk to parents about the symptoms they should look out for, which includes sleeping for long periods of time, red eyes and anger.

Morgan is now in a process of rescuing another group of young people who were brought to him by parents.

“I want Kokstad to be a drug-free area.”

He said the organisation needs support from business people and government departments to rehabilitate drug addicts in Kokstad and appealed to the municipality to empower former drug addicts with skills so they don’t have to return to their former drug habits.
