A FOOTBALL tournament for Kokstad and neighbouring schools is set to be hosted at Kokstad College on Saturday. The tournament is meant to promote football in schools and nurture talent in young footballers.

Organiser Qhamani Ludidi said the tournament is open to U18 boys and girls in East Griqualand regional schools and other schools in Matatiele and Ixopo.

“The tournament is for building unity in schools and to close the gap between girls and boys in soccer,” said Ludidi.

Food and beverages will be served at the event.

Schools that will be participating include Kokstad College, Ixopo High School, St. Patrick’s College, Focused High School, Mount Currie Secondary School, King Edward High School and Bergview College. Pupils were asked to wear school uniform at the tournament.

The tournament opens with a game between Kokstad College and St Patrick’s College at 8 am.

Former Banyana Banyana captain Amanda Dlamini and other dignitaries will be attending.
