Opposition party cries ‘political espionage’ over office break-ins

THE Democratic Alliance this week said they are deeply concerned about last week’s break-in and theft of its computers and external hard drives in Sisonke.

Democratic Alliance Constituency head in Sisonke Francois Rodgers said they are very concerned about recent spate of events that led to the theft of computers, external hard drives and diaries of both the political head and a staff member of the DA in Sisonke.

The first occurrence was coincidently on the same day that three DA councillors resigned and defected to the ANC. The culprit was apprehended the following day by SAPS, but as yet there is no sign of the stolen equipment.

The second event occurred on Saturday night when intruders broke into the home of a DA staff member and removed a laptop, a hard drive and a diary from the member’s brief case.

"What makes this robbery even more sinister is that in the same room was another briefcase containing a laptop and Tablet, yet nothing else was removed from the home.
“This leads one to believe that the robbery was orchestrated for one purpose and that was the theft of DA equipment and information," said Rodgers.

The DA has reported the matter to the SAPS, in light of what could very well be political espionage.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Dumisani Ncongo confirmed that a case has been opened and nobody has been arrested yet, and investigations are ongoing.
