THE community of Entsikeni village outside Umzimkhulu handed over a list of grievances at a community march to Entsikeni Police Station on Tuesday.

People accuse police officers of using state vehicles for personal business.
Another grievance was about the shortage of police vehicles and drivers. “It seems as if we don’t have a police station because when we open cases no one pays any attention. Only cases that are opened by ‘popular’ families in the village are taken seriously at the police sta-tion.”

“Dockets get lost and there are no follow-ups after fingerprints are taken at crime scenes,” said Musa Zincume.

Another grievance was that people want cases to be treated equally and police vans and drivers must be present at the police station.

People also complained about the release of criminals after committing serious crimes. The high alcohol and dagga trade is another worry.
People also accuse foreign nationals of using money to lure young girls and say foreign nationals must leave the area because they open businesses without creating jobs.

The memorandum was accepted by station commander Captain Joseph Schalkwyk.

“I confirm that I received the memorandum and I am going to respond within 14 days,” said Schalkwyk.
