Police investigate attempted robbery

2018-07-20 06:00

POLICE have launched a manhunt for the unknown men who allegedly placed an explosive device at an ATM in the town of Matatiele on July 4.

Police spokesperson Captain Raphael Motloung said police believed the device was left in the ATM for the purposes of a bank robbery.

He said a passerby who saw the men placing the device at the ATM informed police at 6 am.

“Police bomb experts were called to investigate and, upon investigation, they confirmed the explosive device and defused it immediately.

“Police are happy that the criminals mission was unsuccessful,” said Motloung.

The spokesperson also asked the community to continue reporting criminal activities in the area.
