THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is preparing for the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial congress at Pietermaritzburg this weekend where provincial leaders will be elected. Speaking about the congress, Harry Gwala District regional chairperson Linda Mbele said the party will build up unity to gain support during the 2019 general elections. He said the party will debate different strategies to grow and maintain the party. He also said members of the district will be endorsing Vusi Khoza, the EFF member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature, to be elected as provincial chairperson. “We believe that Khoza can take the party to a higher level at next year’s elections,” he said. After the 2016 local government elections, the structure in the KwaZulu-Natal Province was put under administration. Mbele said the party needs to reconsider conditions that workers face at government departments. “There are complaints about poor working conditions in the government sector and we want the EFF to address it. There is corruption in municipalities and that needs serious attention,” said Mbele. He called for the government to recognise local traditional leaders who work tirelessly in maintaining peace and stability in rural areas.
