SEVERAL schools participated in a library road show held by the DoE and Umzimkhulu Local Municipality in Umzimkhulu recently.
Grade 1, 2 and 3 pupils participated in a colouring-in competition, Grade 4, 5, and 6 pupils participated in a counting competition and Grade 7, 8 and 9 participated in a spelling competition.

Grade 10, 11 and 12 pupils showed their skill by debating and a library truck was despatched to assist pupils with information.
Chief Education Specialist from the department, Ms Ndlovu-Mpofane thanked the municipality for partnering with DoE in the road show.
“The municipality is adding value to the learning and teaching campaign and it is upsetting to see young people being exposed in social networks, and as a result they make spelling and grammar errors.”

Sukuma Sakhe also played a part in the road show by addressing challenges faced by DoE.

Participating pupils were given calculators, pencil cases, backpacks with water bottles and cups.
Umzimkhulu Municipality Mayor, Mphuthumi Mpabanga said despite challenges faced by DoE the municipality is doing its best to help.
“The municipality has instructed libraries to open every Saturday and identified some community halls that must provide library material for pupils.” - Supplied.
