GRADE 11 and 12 pupils from the rural schools of Creighton were taught about aviation opportunities at a career exhibition hosted by a Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a NGO at Sonyongwana High last Saturday.
The NGO adopted Sonyongwana High to help improve its results last year.

The school pass rate was 42% in 2015 and after it was adopted by the NGO the results improved to 70% last year. The NGO provided the school with a laboratory and computers.

At the expo pupils were tolkd about various opportunities in the aviation industry and a SANDF helicopter was used to educate pupils.

Department of Education Chief Education Specialist in Pholela Circuit, Thiyane Magaga thanked the NGO for helping underperforming schools in the circuit. “The circuit has many rural schools that do not have maths and physical science teachers, so we thank the NGO for supporting our schools,” said Magaga.

The NGO also hosted a winter school programme for matric maths and physical science pupils.
