THE mayor of Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality, Zamo Nxumalo, restored hope to Lower Fairview residents in Ixopo during a sod-turning event for the construction of an eight-kilometre road on November 6.

Residents were delighted when they saw the mayor and members of the municipal infrastructure, planning and development portfolio committee visiting their area.

A service provider who is set to build the road was introduced to the residents. The road is expected to be tarred and sidewalks will also be built.

“The project needs to be finished on time without disruption from residents. Job opportunities that will benefit Lower Fairview residents will be created when the project is resumed,” said Nxumalo.

The construction of the road is expected to start soon and be completed within a period of eight months, at a total budget of R9,1 million.
