AS many farmers celebrate the recent heavy rains, a farmer, Thabiso Fayilani from Mvenyane village outside Matatiele, is devastated after losing 11 sheep due to the havoc it caused on Wednesday.

“On Tuesday afternoon, I took my flock of sheep from the veld and put them in a barn for warmth, but unfortunately 11 died because of the cold weather,” said Fayilani.

Another farmer, Manelisi Katangana from Mvenyane lost six sheep on Tuesday and five on Wednesday.

The kraal where he keeps the sheep and lambs was badly affected by the rain and two lambs died.

“I am now heartbroken,” said Katangana.

But some farmers celebrated because they are now going to plant crops.

SAPS spokesperson Raphael Motloung said no incidents caused by heavy rains were reported.
