THE Kokstad Regional Court recently sentenced Bonginkosi Zeka (24) to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 28-year-old woman on January 27, 2013. Zeka was 20 years when he committed the crime.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Dumisani Ncongo said Zeka and two other men followed a woman home from a tavern in Bhongweni at 1am on the day. She tried to run away but the men grabbed her.

“One man held the woman in order for her not to run away, the second man raped her while the third kept guard. The men took the woman to their home and ran away, but Zeka raped her until the morning,” said Ncongo. The woman opened a case of rape at the Kokstad Police Station and on the same day Zeka was arrested and charged.

Zeka appeared in court and was granted bail but failed to attend his case thereafter. Police arrested him for the second time and after several court appearances he was convicted for rape. — Supplied
