THE African National Congress in Matatiele celebrated after doing well in the recent local government elections. Alfred Nzo, regional chairperson, and the district mayor Sixolile Mehlomakhulu said the party received 79,5 percent of the vote and that has to be celebrated. The celebrations were attended by religious leaders, chiefs and other stakeholders, including regional branches and party volunteers.

He said in Ntabankulu there is a ward that made history.

“The ward was the best performing one for the ANC in the country,” said Mehlomakhulu.

Before elections some members of the SACP in the region vowed to contest against the ruling party, but the national leadership of the SACP disapproved that.

Mehlomakhulu said the party is not going to remove councillors from wards that were affected by candidate disputes.
