THEMBALETHU Senior Secondary, in Kokstad, hosted an academic awards event at Bhongweni Youth Centre last Friday, November 9. The event honoured pupils as well as parents who contributed towards the school.

School Principal Noligwa Magwaza said the school was established in January this year after local schools experienced overcrowding. She thanked local schools for supplying them with furniture and equipment.

“In 2018, the school had a total number of 250 grade eight pupils, and next year we are anticipating more pupils, since we will open grade nine classes.

“We encourage parents and community members to contribute in school meetings for the benefit of the school and children,” Magwaza said.

School teacher Mvuyisi Mtengwane presented a certificate of appreciation to one special parent, Albertina Silangwe, for attending school meetings and supporting the school.

“I walked almost a kilometer to attend school meetings, and my aim was to make the school to run smoothly.

“I always encourage community members to attend school meetings for the future of their children,” said the 80-year-old Silangwe.

In September, the school promoted reading, storytelling, and drama and grade eight pupils were awarded trophies, medals, and certificates.
