KOKSTAD Public Primary School embarked on a one-day cleaning campaign to promote health and a clean environment at the school recently.

The campaign started from the school yard on April 26 and moved to Bhongweni Township on the same day. At the campaign, pupils, teachers and officials from the Department of Environmental Affairs cleaned Kokstad Public Primary and the streets in Bhongweni for about three hours.

Speaking to Fever, school principal, Siphesihle Mkhize said that the campaign was initiated in 2011 by pupils and teachers and is now supported by government departments, the Greater Kokstad Municipality and community members.

“On a daily basis, pupils are engaged in cleaning campaigns within the school to keep the environment clean and healthy,” said Mkhize.

Outside the corner of Carl Malcomess High, people are accused of illegally dumping rubbish, making the area filthy. Mkhize said that people needed to be educated about legal dumping.

“Our school has won awards for being the cleanest school in Kokstad.

“We have pupils who are engaged in recycling competitions and that make us happy,” said Mkhize.
