Several other runners participated in the 38 km Trail Run, with Lyle Timm coming first at 4:13:57.

“This race is all about mentality, I didn’t rush when I was going up and I feel like I am on the right track,” said overall winner Bongumusa Mthembu, who added that he is looking forward to the 2019 Comrades Marathon.

Lisa Collett, who finished first in the 42km women’s race, was happy with her victory.

“I was worried about taking part in the Sani Stagger Marathon. It is good to compete with Mthembu and Nkosinathi Duma; I haven’t seen them since we got back from overseas,” she said.

The 21 km half marathon started from the top of Sani Pass and ran down to the Premier Resort Sani Pass Hotel.

The new 38km and 21km trails received massive support.
